Settling in sessions
We feel that every child is different, so although we don’t specify the number of sessions we have found that a mix of the parent/carer staying with the child and the child staying for short times on their own allows your child to feel comfortable to stay in the setting on their own. We will agree with you the best way for your child to settle in with us
Sometimes children can feel unsettled whilst at Pre-School – this can happen when they start at a new Pre-School or when a parent/carer leaves them. Our experienced staff are always on hand to assist and comfort a child should this situation occur and have some great distraction techniques. If you have a preferred method of dealing with this situation we are happy to discuss this with you. We feel honesty is the best policy and always communicate clearly as to how your child’s time with us has been.
Arriving at Pre-School
On arrival at Pre-School, coats and bags need to be hung up in the cloakroom – all children will have a named peg. Self-registration takes place when children come into the room; there is a white magnetic board on the left hand side with names on to ‘post’ in the box – this helps children with name recognition.
We encourage all parents/carers to say goodbye to their child when they leave – should your little one become upset we will use whichever technique works for you and your child. Please be assured we will work closely with you to build a positive experience when you drop off.
Our day at Pre-School starts with free play until all the children have arrived – we then have group time and registration at 9.00am
Key person
You will be allocated a key person for your child – this member of staff will build a strong relationship with the parents/carers and support your child with personal care. The Key Person supports both you and your child with settling in and will be the person who has the overall responsibility for your child’s development journey throughout Pre-School.
