We really value the seamless transition of children moving from Pre-School into School and towards the end of their time with us we work hard to slowly introduce the skills they need to be ready for School. The following are some of the key areas we focus on:
Independence
Encouraging your child to manage their own shoes and clothing, name recognition, toileting, eating (being able to recognise when they are hungry and thirsty), and encouraging positive separation at drop offs are all great ways to help your child prepare.
PSED (Personal, Social and Emotional Development)
This is about making friends, taking turns, sorting out conflict with minimal adult intervention, working within a group, getting enough sleep, problem solving, etc. We know that children have a lot of different emotions buzzing around and helping them to recognise and manage these at home and at Pre-School not only helps them as they navigate school, but also in their everyday interactions with friends and family.
Communication
We are working on helping children to be able to listen and engage, to follow simple and 2-part instructions, make good eye contact, understand language and be confident talkers.
