Building Bridges to a Brighter Future
At Cropredy Church of England Primary School, our curriculum is shaped by our Christian values and our vision of “Building Bridges to a Brighter Future.” This vision underpins everything we do: we aim to connect our children to the world around them, to their community, to their future aspirations, and to one another—ensuring that every child leaves us equipped, empowered, and inspired.
We offer a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that is inclusive by design and rich in knowledge, experience, and opportunity. It is our belief that every child—regardless of background, need or starting point—deserves access to the very best education so they can flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
Our Curriculum Aims to:
Raise aspirations and open doors to future possibilities.
Build strong foundations of knowledge that support deep understanding and critical thinking.
Celebrate diversity and inclusion, ensuring all children feel seen, valued and supported.
Provide rich, real-world experiences that bring learning to life.
Develop character and values that prepare children to contribute positively to society.
Knowledge, Concepts and Vocabulary (KCVs)
The curriculum is designed to build on children’s prior learning through the use of Knowledge, Concepts and Vocabulary Organisers (KCVs).
Knowledge is the core element of our curriculum and all our curriculum experiences and skills development are centred around subject-based knowledge progression. Knowledge acts as ‘building blocks’ of learning, enabling our pupils to make relationships to memory and cognition, providing a basis for ‘higher-order’ thinking. It also ensures carefully considered design of activities, vocabulary, questions and assessment of learning.
Alongside this, we recognise that skills are essential tools for applying knowledge in meaningful ways. Through deliberate practice, modelling and reflection, pupils are taught how to think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate with others, and solve problems creatively. These skills are embedded within subject disciplines and nurtured across the curriculum, enabling children to become confident, capable learners who are well-prepared for the challenges of the modern world.
Principles of Knowledge, Concepts and Vocabulary Organisers:
| Principles | So that…. |
| KCVs are stuck in children’s books at the beginning of each unit. These form the minimum level of knowledge that all children will learn. | Children, teachers and parents are clear about what KCVs are being taught and assessed in each unit. |
| There is a clear link between the KCV of each unit and the sequence of lessons which intend to facilitate the learning of this content. | All lessons are designed to teach and assess the KCV intended within the unit. |
| Each unit contains questioning to support an assessment of the KCV | Teachers know how successful their teaching has been and what ‘gaps’ in learning need to be addressed. |
| Attention is paid to any gaps in learning uncovered by the unit assessment | Any ‘gaps’ in children’s learning are reduced which will help children link future, more complex, knowledge to previous learning. |
Inclusion and Equality
We are committed to equity of access and experience. Our curriculum is adapted to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring that:
- Every child can access the full curriculum offer.
- Vulnerable learners are prioritised for enrichment and support.
- Gaps in learning are identified and addressed swiftly.
We believe that building bridges means removing barriers—whether academic, social or emotional—so that every child can thrive.
Experiences
We enrich our curriculum through a wide range of real-world experiences that bring learning to life and ensure all children, particularly those who are vulnerable or disadvantaged, have access to high-quality opportunities. There are a range of opportunities for these experiences at Cropredy. From kayaking and canoeing on local waterways to engaging in folk music and performance, our pupils develop resilience, creativity and a strong sense of identity. Learning Mandarin introduces them to global cultures and languages, preparing them for a connected world. These experiences are not extras—they are integral to our curriculum and reflect our commitment to building bridges between knowledge and experience, school and society, and the present and the future.
Community and Environment
Our school is deeply rooted in the Cropredy community. We make full use of our extensive outdoor spaces to support learning across the curriculum—from science and geography to art and wellbeing. Children and adults alike are encouraged to engage with the natural environment, fostering a sense of stewardship and connection.
We work closely with local organisations, families and churches to ensure that our curriculum reflects and celebrates the richness of our community, while also preparing children for life beyond it. As part of this, we warmly invite parents and carers into school throughout the year to observe teaching and learning in action.
A part of rh curriculum offer we provide Forest School lessons for every year group. This promotes personal development, resilience, and emotional wellbeing, while also encouraging independence and collaborative learning. Through regular outdoor experiences, children develop confidence and curiosity—qualities that underpin effective learning behaviours and contribute to a broad and balanced curriculum. Forest School also supports pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, helping them to flourish both in and beyond the classroom.
Character, Values and Spiritual Development
Through our values of Ready, Respectful, Responsible, and our Christian ethos, we nurture:
Empathy and emotional intelligence.
Moral and spiritual reflection.
Resilience, independence and curiosity.
Our curriculum helps children to build bridges between themselves and others, developing the character and confidence to make a positive difference in the world.
At Cropredy Church of England Primary School, our curriculum is more than a set of subjects—it is a journey of discovery, growth and transformation. Through high expectations, inclusive practice, and rich experiences, we are building bridges to a brighter future for every child in our care.
